Welcome to Saint Joseph’s Children’s Home: A Tradition of Hope and Healing

At Saint Joseph’s Children’s Home, we believe every child deserves a second chance. For over 90 years, we have been a cornerstone of care and support for Wyoming youth and families across the state and surrounding region. Guided by our mission to nurture the spiritual, emotional, academic, and physical growth of every child, we are proud to offer a safe haven where achievements are celebrated, and futures are rebuilt.  This includes comprehensive support through behavioral services, ensuring each child receives the individualized care they need.

Our Mission: Serving the Whole Child

As a private, non-profit Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF), Saint Joseph’s serves youth ages 6 through 17. Our commitment is rooted in the Catholic tradition of social ministry, emphasizing holistic care and Christian principles. Whether through social skills training, psychotherapy, or educational support, our goal is to provide comprehensive behavioral health services that address the unique needs of every child.

A Legacy of Care

Founded in 1930 by Bishop Patrick McGovern, Saint Joseph’s began as an orphanage, offering a safe home for up to 100 children. Over time, our mission evolved to meet the changing needs of Wyoming youth. In 1971, we shifted our focus to providing specialized treatment for emotionally disturbed youth, officially becoming Saint Joseph’s Children’s Home.

Through the years, we’ve expanded our programs and facilities:

  • 1993: Opened the Newell Children’s Center, a secure treatment facility for youth in crisis.
  • 1996: Revitalized our 4-H and Horse Programs as therapeutic outlets for children.
  • 2002: Launched the Sisters of St. Francis Children’s Center, a residential living unit.
  • 2004: Opened the St. John Bosco Children’s Center to further support our mission.

Comprehensive Services for Youth in Need

Located in Torrington, Wyoming, our campus provides a safe and nurturing environment for up to 62 children. Our secured and open living units offer 24-hour supervision and a range of essential services, including:

  • Social skills training
  • Behavioral services
  • Psychotherapy
  • Educational support
  • Chemical dependency services

We are proud to be the first non-hospital-based program in Wyoming to achieve JCAHO accreditation, reflecting our dedication to quality care.

How You Can Help
Our work wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of donors like you. Every contribution directly supports the care and services we provide to children in need. Thanks to an anonymous donor, every dollar you give will be matched, up to $250,000—doubling the impact of your gift.
