Staff Spotlight: Whitney George

Role: Therapist
Years at SJCH: 2.5 years

Whitney has been a therapist at Saint Joseph’s Children’s Home for 2.5 years. For her, the most meaningful moments happen right in session, the everyday therapeutic work she gets to do with the kids she serves, building trust, connection, and progress one conversation at a time.

  • What the youth have taught her: Oh, man! They have taught me so much about strength and resilience. Just in the way these kids show up, grow, and push forward despite what some of them have been through — is honestly inspiring. Their determination is a great reminder of what it really means to persevere.
  • Her role: I get to work with really cool kids.
  • 3 words for SJCH: Caring, warm, fun.
  • Mascot pick: A horse or “bronco”. A horse symbolizes strength, freedom, and the capacity for growth through trust and connection — all qualities that mirror the journey of the kids we serve. Horses are powerful and spirited, yet they’re also sensitive, intuitive animals that respond best to patience, consistency, and care. In many ways, they reflect the resilience and potential of children working through challenges. Just like some of our kids, a horse can seem guarded or unpredictable at first — not out of defiance, but because of past experiences or a need to feel safe. With understanding, respect, and steady support, they learn to trust again and begin to thrive. The image of a bronco, especially, represents untamed energy and courage — a reminder that what may first appear as “wild” or “difficult” often hides incredible strength and beauty waiting to be guided, not broken.
  • Superpower wish: To be able to cook really, really, really well.
  • Fun fact: She can wiggle her ears!
