Guardian of Light: Stormy Lower

Guardians of Light: Our People, Our Stories. At Saint Joseph’s Children’s Home, the real magic comes from the people who pour their hearts into serving our youth and families every single day. Our staff bring compassion, creativity, and resilience to every role—and we think it’s time to celebrate them!

Staff Spotlight: Stormy lower

Role: Program Director
Years at SJCH: 13 years

Stormy has been part of the Saint Joseph’s Children’s Home team for 13 years. She’s driven by the moments when confidence begins to shine through — in both youth and their families. Seeing that shift, mentally and emotionally, and knowing they’ve gained the skills to break cycles of trauma, often spanning generations, is what makes this work so meaningful to her. When families are smiling, connecting, having hard conversations, and feeling hopeful about their relationships, Stormy is reminded why this work matters so deeply.

  • What the youth have taught her: We are all still learning. I learn something all the time from the youth we work with. Adults are not the answer for everything. Ask a kid a question, and they have endless ways of thinking and countless possibilities. We should always support this excitement in their thinking and their learning.
  • Her role: People often will say that “what you do matters” or “what you do must be so hard,” and both are true. Nothing worth doing is easy. I would say that we are the navigators for youth and families to heal and to learn skills that will impact multi-generational trauma.
  • 3 words for SJCH: Hope, Compassion, Courage.
  • Mascot pick: Something that has to do with light. A flame perhaps – his name would be “Joey” – he would be happy, dancing, courageous, and brave. He would shine brightly. I think this would encompass all of what we are bringing forth through our values – to be the light, to protect the light, to encourage all lights to shine.
  • Superpower wish: To heal in profound ways in a world that is hurting.
  • Fun fact: She loves to go deep-sea fishing.
