St. Joseph's Children's Home recognizes the impact that trauma has on many of the children and families that we serve. Identifying and addressing the issues of trauma are a treatment priority. Prior to and upon admission, residents are screened for past and current trauma. Once identified, the trauma and its effects are incorporated into the individual treatment plan. The clinical team utilizes various treatment modalities to effectively treat trauma including, but not limited to: Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and equine assisted therapy. Facility staff receive ongoing training in the effects of trauma and trauma based approaches as presented by experts such as, Dr. Bruce Perry and Dr. Larry Brendtro. St. Joseph's Children's Home, in its efforts to treat trauma, has established a trauma informed care committee that meets regularly to explore, discuss and implement effective approaches that benefit staff, residents and their families.
