The entire curriculum provided at St. Joseph's Children's Home is based upon our state's K-12 Education Standards. Those standards specify the essential learning all students must master in order to graduate from a Wyoming high school. Upon admission to St. Joseph's, most of our students are performing well below their expected grade level based upon state standards. Consequently, the curriculum and instruction we offer focuses upon helping students narrow or eliminate this gap. Two of our school's goals specifically address the improvement of reading and writing skills. Both of these areas are critical 'first steps' for making adequate progress in almost all other classes as well as career choices.
All of our elementary students and most of our secondary students have classes in the following areas on a daily basis: English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Computer Applications, P.E. and Reading. Specific elective courses are required for our older secondary students including: Health, Parenting Skills, Independent Living, Work Skills and Vocational Education.
We also have the ability to access other curriculum sources outside of St. Joseph's including GED preparation, Goshen County School District, Eastern Wyoming College and Compass Learning. Students who are behind in the number of credits necessary for graduation have the opportunity to take independent study courses that extend beyond our regular school day.
